Unable to Receive Faxes to the RingCentral Fax Number From Certain Numbers

Issue

Unable to receive some faxes sent to the RingCentral main fax or company number.
 

Affected Environments

Inbound fax
 

Cause

The baud rate is set too high on the sender's fax machine.
 

Resolution

Follow the steps below if you have access to the sender's fax machine.

1. Lower the baud rate to 7200
2. Disable Error Correction

1. Lower the baud rate to 7200
2. Disable Error Correction
3. Check Advanced rules to be sure none are interrupting or redirecting the fax
4. Make sure the Company number is both Fax and Voice
5. Confirm that the sender can call (voice call) the fax line from their line and location to ensure reachability



What is baud rate?
Baud rate is the Information transfer rate in a communication channel. Baud rate is commonly used in electronic serial communication. For example, 7200 baud means the serial port is capable of transmitting maximum of 7200 bits per second.

In telecommunications and electronics baud is used to measure symbol rate, which is one of the components that determine communication speed over a data channel.


How to fix the baud rate on specific fax machines?


Changing the baud rate settings are different depending on the make and model of the fax machines and MFC's. For specific instructions on how to change baud rate on specific fax machine, ask the sender who is having issues sending faxes to provide their make and model of the fax machine and the carrier they are with if possible. Contact CLOVDA Support for specific instruction on how to lower the baud rate and disable "error correction".
