Mobile network is getting faster and faster in Canada as 5G network is just around the corner. With the speed of data network evolution from 2G, 3G, 4G to latest networks such as LTE, LTE+, LTE Advanced and 5G data consumption by an average user also increased as faster networks tend to consume more data. However, thanks to some advanced features on majority of latest devices in the market, we have ways to control our data usage and save overage charges by carriers by doing some simple hacks. Please read the following option to save data on iPhone Devices.

Option 1: Turn on Low Data Mode

When low data mode is turned on unnecessary data usage by apps can be stopped and apps will stop using data in the background. There will be no automatic app downloads.

Follow the instruction below to activate the Low Data Mode:

Step 1: Open Settings

Step 2: Tap Cellular

Step 3: Tap Cellular Data Options

Step 4: Swipe Low Data Mode to right. This will Turn Green.

Option 2: Turn Off LTE, VoLTE

LTE (Long Term Evolution) network on your mobile device are much faster compared to 3G networks. However, LTE can use up your mobile data faster and you might incur data overage charges. Afterall, 3G network is still fast enough for majority of the applications, streaming and listening to music if its not throttled by your network provider to a lowest point speed.

Follow the instruction below to switch off the LTE or Switch to 3G Network:

Option 3: Stop Background App Refresh

iPhone or iPad can automatically update operating system and app in the background whenever an update is available. This is convenient, but if this happens when you are not connected to the Wi-Fi, this may eat up your data faster. Therefore, you need to make sure background app refresh happens only when you are connected to the wi-fi.

Follow the steps below to switch off or Wi-Fi only background app refresh:

Option 3: Wi-Fi Assist Off

This is another notable feature on iPhone which can contribute to unusual high data usage. Wi-Fi assist is a feature on iPhone which switches your phone automatically to mobile network if your Wi-Fi is sloppy or you were in a bad wifi coverage area. For example, lets say you were watching a YouTube video at home on your mobile thinking you are connected to Wi-Fi, however your phone might automatically use mobile data if your Wi-Fi network slows down or not optimum.

You can turn this feature off by following the steps below and save data usage:
